EC Markets Joins Beach Clean-Up in Limassol For World Maritime Day

On 24th September, EC Markets joined more than 100 volunteers for a beach clean-up in Limassol.
Organised by the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (CYMEPA) to mark World Maritime Day, the event brought the local community together to help protect Limassol’s coastline.
Our team joined volunteers along the shoreline, collecting waste from the beach and surrounding areas. By the end of the clean-up, the difference was clear.
Eirini Nikolaou, EC Markets Regional HR Manager, said: “Days like this remind us why protecting our coastline matters. Pollution affects sea life and spoils the beaches our communities enjoy every day. Seeing more than 100 people come together and take action showed how much can be achieved when everyone plays a part.”

About the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (CYMEPA)
CYMEPA is a non-profit that works to protect the sea from pollution.
It raises awareness among seafarers, maritime executives, and the general public about coastal pollution, and brings people together to help care for Cyprus’s shorelines.
CYMEPA also works with the Cyprus Government to help put international marine protection agreements into practice, and runs environmental projects like the one we took part in.
Marking World Maritime Day 2026
The clean-up took place as part of World Maritime Day, the International Maritime Organisation’s annual initiative highlighting maritime safety, security, and environmental protection.
The 2026–2027 theme, “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence“, is centered on turning maritime commitments into action. For us, that meant getting involved at a local level.
Why a Clean Coastline Matters
Cyprus’s coastline supports local communities, tourism, and marine ecosystems. Keeping it clean requires continued action from organisations, businesses, and individuals alike.
Taking part in this clean-up event gave our team a closer look at CYMEPA’s work and the environmental challenges facing the island’s coastline. More importantly, it gave us the opportunity to contribute directly.
Looking Ahead
Our work with CYMEPA doesn’t end with one clean-up. We want to continue finding practical ways to support the communities and environments around us.
Thank you to CYMEPA, our EC Markets volunteers, and everyone who gave their time to help make a difference along Limassol’s coastline.
