Inside Liverpool FC’s AXA Training Centre: Our Open Training Experience
On 16 March, we had the opportunity to attend Liverpool FC’s Open Training session at the AXA Training Centre, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at how one of the world’s most elite football clubs prepares for competition.
Our first stop was at Anfield, the club’s state-of-the-art training complex in Kirkby, where the first team prepares for domestic (Premier League, FA Cup etc.) and European games.
For our team, the visit provided a unique opportunity to experience first-hand the environment where elite performance is built.
A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Elite Preparation
Once inside the AXA Training Centre, guests were given a tour of Liverpool FC’s world-class facilities before watching the first-team training session.
Training sessions offer a very different perspective compared with watching a match. Away from the stadium lights, the focus is on preparation, repetition, structure, and attention to detail.
Every drill and tactical movement is carefully planned, reinforcing how elite teams maintain performance across an entire season.
Seeing this process up close highlights just how much work happens long before players step onto the pitch on match day.
Meeting a Liverpool FC Legend
During the visit, attendees also had the opportunity to meet John Aldridge, one of the club’s most iconic former strikers.
Guests were able to take photos and briefly speak with Aldridge, adding a memorable moment to the experience.
Meeting a player who competed at the highest level of football offered valuable perspective on the mentality required to perform consistently in one of the world’s most demanding sporting environments.
